BUDDING JUNIOR SURFERS TO LINE-UP IN LAST ROUND OF WAHU SURFER GROMS COMPS IN TASMANIAThursday, 26 February 2015
Clifton Beach / Tasmania – 26/2/2015): Budding junior surfers will be on show this weekend at the picturesque Clifton Beach as the final round of the ten event Wahu Surfer Groms Comps heads south to Tasmania.A full field of nearly 40 competitors are expected to participate in the one-day event, which will see young grommets compete for a range of Wahu prizes across activities both in and out of the water.Early swell forecasts indicate that fun 2 foot conditions will be on offer on Saturday, providing ample opportunity for the competitors to shine in the final event of the series that has travelled across the country, catering for micro-groms (U/8) and big kids alike (U/14). Competition will commence at approximately 8:30am.Regarded as one of the major stepping stones in the development of young Australian surfers, the Under 8 will be a mixed division with parent assist, while competition will be held in both boys and girls in the Under 10, Under 12 and Under 14 divisions.As an added bonus, the respective winners of the Under 14 boys’ and girls’ divisions from each event will receive an invitation to attend an all-expenses paid, three-day Wahu Surf Camp at the Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre.The Wahu Surfer Groms Comps have helped to launch the careers of many of Australia’s most promising junior surfers, with past participant and event winner Matt Banting notably about to enter his rookie season on the World Surf League championship tour in 2015.
