Jesse Mendes has conquered the SATA Airlines Azores Pro 2014, at Praia de Santa Barbara, in the Azores Islands, Portugal. The Brazilian surfer defeated Joan Duru in the final heat of the Prime event held in two-to-three foot waves. The 35-minute heat saw Mendes and Duru fighting for precious points for the Qualifying Series rankings. In the first exchange, Jesse Mendes secured a 7.50-point ride against Duru’s 6.17 wave. Later, the Brazilian added a 7.03, and the French surfer answered with a frontside air. But Mendes would seal the deal with a clean wave in which he nailed two big turns for an excellent 8.33.
