Two Brazilian researchers studied the impact of surf tourism on the local economy of Guarda do Embaú, a World Surfing Reserve. Marcos Abilio Bosquetti and Marcos Antônio de Souza wanted to quantify the economic impact surfing and surf resources have on their community. They believe that understanding the benefits of a world-class surf spot in the local economy is essential in guiding policymakers in the right direction.
