Subway® Summer Surf Series Heads West To Trigg Point, WAWednesday, 11 March 2015
The 12th event of the Subway® Summer Surf Series is set to splash down on Perth’s metropolitan beach this weekend, with Trigg Point to host some of the country’s best young junior surfers. After a hugely successful event at Gas Bay in Margaret River just six weeks ago, Western Australia’s very best male and female surfers have registered in great numbers to compete in under 16 and under 18 age divisions as well as the recently added under 21 category. This weekend’s event will offer participants a final chance to attend a three-day Subway® Surf Camp at the renowned Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre at Casuarina. This money can’t buy experience will be conducted by Australia’s leading surf coaches, and will provide participants with the guidance and training they need to make the transition from surfer to professional athlete.Pascal Hutchinson (Sorrento), Moses Le Grice (East Fremantle), Alex McGuffin (Bicton) and Nick Muntz (Trigg) will be leading the charge for the local metropolitan surfers on their home break this weekend.Regional surfers from right across the state will be heading to Perth in droves, for their chance to compete in Australia’s newest junior surfing series. After great performances in Margaret River, Duke Nagtzaam (Yallingup), Emi Campbell (Denmark), Phoebe McGregor (Yallingup), Ben Gradisen (Gracetown) and Baliee Hastie (Margaret River) will be looking to back up their efforts in Perth this weekend. The new series was created to fill a competition void that exists at a crucial point in the development of Australia’s leading junior surfers. It represents an important link in the ‘pathway to the podium’ developed by Surfing Australia, with surfers now able to progress from the VEGEMITE SurfGroms program, onto the Wahu Surfer Groms Comps, into the Subway® Summer Surf Series, followed by the Original Source Australian Boardriders Battle. The Subway® Summer Surf Series will help young Australians continue to develop their passion for surfing, whether it be professionally or recreationally and carry on to enjoy a lifetime of surfing.Ambassadors for the Subway® Summer Surf Series are ASP World Tour competitor and 2012 World Champion Joel Parkinson and leading ASP World Tour female competitor Laura Enever.Adding to the series already high stakes is the inclusion of the Under 21 boy’s and girl’s divisions. The Under 21 winners from each event will be given a free wildcard (only entry fee) into the 2015 Australian Surfmasters Titles (Open Men’s and Women’s divisions) running as part of the Australian Surf Festival.Small summer surf conditions are forecast for the weekend with competition set to kick off from 8am on Saturday, with finals concluding on Sunday. The Subway® Summer Surf Series is proudly supported by Billabong, Surfing Australia and Surfing Western Australia.SUBWAY® SUMMER SURF SERIES EVENT CALENDAR – 2014/15:EVENT 1 – Dee Why, NSW – September 13 – 14, 2014EVENT 2 – Newcastle Beach, NSW – September 27 – 28, 2014EVENT 3 – Sunshine Coast, QLD – October 25 – 26, 2014EVENT 4 – Torquay, VIC – November 1 – 2, 2014EVENT 5 – Kiama, NSW – November 22 – 23, 2014EVENT 6 – Clifton, TAS – December 13, 2014EVENT 7 – Gold Coast, QLD – January 3 – 4, 2015EVENT 8 – Phillip Island, VIC – January 17, 2015EVENT 9 – Margaret River, WA – January 31 – February 1, 2015EVENT 10 – Victor Harbor, SA – February 14 – 15, 2015EVENT 11 – Cronulla, NSW – March 7 – 8, 2015EVENT 12 – Trigg, WA – March 14 -15, 2015EVENT 13 – Yamba, NSW – March 21 – 22, 2015To enter the Subway® Summer Surf Series, visit www.surfingaustralia.comFor regular updates and happenings, become a fan of our Facebook page here.
