When two history researchers at the University of Southern California meet to write a surf book, the result can be quite extraordinary. “The World in the Curl” is a scientific artwork, blending passion and tension, counterculture and capitalism. In the last 60 years, surfing has evolved from a sport of Hawaiian kings and queens to a billion-dollar worldwide industry. No doubt about that, despite many good intentions to keep it free and raw.
