USA Surfing unveiled the names of the athletes that will compete at the first event to directly qualify surfers for Tokyo 2020. Kelly Slater, Kolohe Andino, Conner Coffin, Carissa Moore, Courtney Conlogue, and Caroline Marks will represent the United States in the upcoming 2019 World Surfing Games (WSG). The national governing body for surfing in the United States based its selection on the World Surf League (WSL) rankings after the event in Margaret River.
