The 2017 world surfing champion could be decided in the waves of Supertubos, in Peniche, Portugal. The title race has narrowed down to only four World Surf League (WSL) title contenders after Round 3 of the 2017 MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal: John John Florence, Jordy Smith, Gabriel Medina and Julian Wilson. Five of the eight contenders bowed out, leaving Florence in an excellent position to reconquer the world title. Interestingly, the Hawaiian clinched his maiden world title last year in this same venue of Supertubos.
