The authorities of Orihuela, a city and municipality located in the southeast of Spain, are under heavy criticism after banning surfboards from its coastline. With its 16 kilometers of fine white sand beaches and warm waters, Orihuela Costa – in English, Orihuela Coast – offers plenty of opportunities for water sports enthusiasts. From time to time, the region receives favorable Mediterranean Sea swells that produce optimal conditions for surfing and many other boardsports like stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), bodyboarding, kitesurfing, and windsurfing.
