Shifty five-to-eight foot barreling waves sent the world title race to Pipeline. Joel Parkinson, who also lost his Round 3 heat, is mathematically out of the equation. Gabriel Medina was the first to fall. With just minutes remaining on the clock, the Brazilian had the opportunity to overtake Simpson, but he left the water after his final wave before the time had run down, thinking he had the score for the win.
