On October 25, 2019, The Wave: Bristol officially opened to the public. A group of 20 “First Riders” were selected from over 350 nominations to ride the first public waves at the British surf lagoon. They included Marshall Janson, an 11-year-old boy who lost all four limbs through meningitis, Olympic medallist Jenny Jones, and several European pro surfers including Jayce Robinson, Reubyn Ash, Vincent Duvignac, Ben and Lucas Skinner, among others.
