Kelly Slater failed to advance Round 1 of the Quiksilver Pro France 2014, at Hossegor. Gabriel Medina is through to Round 3. After watching Taj Burrow, Michel Bourez, Jeremy Flores, and Joel Parkinson claiming their early morning heats in the Southwest of France, Slater knew he had to build a winning pace to keep his Dream Tour title hopes alive and steady. But Matt Wilkinson had a different plan, in a rather strange heat. In one of the best waves of the day, Slater pulled off a 9-point huge air reverse but backed off for Wilkinson, who had priority.
